Whether you’re buying, selling, or offering a service – good communication is important. Here’s how to get started.

Messaging an ad

  1. Open the ad you’re interested in.
  2. Tap Chat (it looks like a speech bubble).
  3. Tap into the Write Message box and type in your message.
  4. When you’re finished, tap the send button (it looks like a paper airplane).

You should see your message appear in the section above. That means it’s sent. To see all of your open conversations, Website: tap on the Chat icon in the top left corner of the main menu bar. Phone: tap on the Chat icon on the navigation menu.

Receiving and Responding to Replies

When someone replies to you, you’ll get a notification in your email. If you’re using the GhanaYe:Classifieds app, you can opt-in for phone notifications as well.

To respond:

  1. Tap on the Chats icon.
  2. Tap on the conversation you want to open. You should see the entire history of your messages back and forth. To see more, scroll up.
  3. Type your response into the Write Message box.
  4. When you’re finished, tap the send button (it looks like a paper airplane).

Deleting Conversations

  1. Tap on the Chat icon.
  2. Tap and hold over the message you want to delete until it turns grey and the Delete button (rubbish bin) appears at the top of the screen.
  3. Select all of the conversations you’d like to remove.
  4. Tap Delete.

After removing a conversation, it won’t be visible in your Inbox anymore. However, if you still have the email copy, you can reply there and the conversation history will reappear in your Inbox after a new message is sent.

Can’t See Your Messages?

If you have a reply in Messages but aren’t seeing the email version, you may need to add noreply@ghanaye.com and the domain @reply.ghanaye.com to your email safe list. This will prevent messages from getting caught by your email’s filters. Remember to check your junk and/or spam folders as well.

GhanaYe:Classifieds offers 4 searching tools that will help you narrow in on that perfect item you’re looking for. Get to know how they each work to make the most of your searches.

I’m looking for…

The ‘I’m looking for…’ field is a keyword search. It matches what you type in to the titles of ads on GhanaYe:Classifieds. Choose your keywords carefully. If all of the words you type in are not in the title, the ad won’t appear in your search results.

Location

The ‘Location’ field will limit your search results to a specific region. As you type in your location, you will see a drop-down list of options. If you don’t see your area appear, try an area nearby.

Category

Once you’ve started your search, you will see a section titled Category on the left side of the screen (if you’re using a small screen, you can find them by clicking Refine, then Category). You can select from the list of categories and subcategories. Choose the most specific category you can to get the most relevant results.

Filters

Filters allow you to limit your searches to ads with a specific attribute. After you begin your search, filter options will appear on the left side of the search results page (if you’re using a small screen, you can find them by clicking Refine).

The basic filters are:

  • Distance from your location
  • Price minimum and maximum
  • Ads with pictures
  • Search title & description
  • Urgent or Feature ads

There are also category-specific filters in some sections (e.g., Property type filter in the Property for Rent category or the mileage filter in Motors). After you’ve started a basic search, remember to check what filter options are available.

How to Get Better Results

Change Up Your Keywords

Everyone phrases things differently. If you’re not finding what you’re looking for, try changing out the words.

Example: You’re looking for a lawn mowing service but haven’t found many ads in your area. Try searching for ‘grass cutting’ or ‘garden maintenance’ instead. All sellers phrase things differently, so rephrase and try different combinations.

Use a Filter in Place of a Keyword

Most sellers on GhanaYe:Classifieds are not professional advertisers. They often don’t put the most relevant keywords in their titles. They may include spelling mistakes. Using filters will show ads that match your needs.

Example: You’re looking for a black hatchback under GHc 500, that is also within 30 minutes of Bantama. Typing in ‘Black hatchback 30 minutes from Bantama GHc 500’ is unlikely to get a lot of results. Instead, you can use filters for each of those attributes. If you want something not included in the filters (e.g., heated seats), you can add keywords for that detail.

Select the Most Specific Category

Some categories, like For Sale, have multiple levels of subcategories. The more specific the category you select, the more relevant your results will be.

Example: You’re looking for a new kitchen table. When you search using the keyword ‘table’ you’re seeing ads for bedside tables, table tennis, and more. Selecting the subcategory Dining Tables & Chairs will remove the everything other than kitchen tables.

Ad ranking is where each ad appears on the page of search results. In a default search, ads are sorted by their posted date with the most recent ads showing at the top of the page, below the Featured ads section.

The Sort By drop-down menu can be found on the right-hand side of the page. This menu has 4 options:

  • Most recent first (default)
  • Price: Low to High
  • Price: High to Low
  • Nearest First

Once you change this setting it will be saved for your future searches. If it doesn’t save, you may need to allow GhanaYe:Classifieds to store cookies on your browser. If you’re still having trouble, try clearing your cookies and updating your browser.

GhanaYe:Classifieds’ Favorites section allows you to quickly mark an ad that you want to keep an eye on or come back to later.

Saving an Ad to Favorites

There are two ways to save an ad to your favorites. You can click Add to Favourites (heart icon) on any ad in the search results or you can click Favourite after opening the ad. When the heart icon turns yellow or black, the ad is saved into your favourites.

Removing an Ad from Favourites

If you are viewing the ad in the search results or on the ad detail page, you can click the Save Ad/Favourite button again to remove it from your favourites. If the heart is no longer yellow or black, it has been removed.

To remove multiple ads from your favourites:

  1. Click on the My Account.
  2. Select Favourites from the side menu.
  3. Click Remove from Favourites to de-select it. The ad will be removed from your Favourites right away.

Ads Disappearing from Favourites

The Favourites section is limited to 99 saved ads at a time. Saving a new ad when you’re at the limit will automatically remove the oldest Favourite in your list. If a seller deletes their ad, it will also be removed from your list.

Having trouble?

If ads won’t save to your favourites or are disappearing (and you are not at the 99-ad limit), try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache.
